Unique Goals I Want to Accomplish in my Life Time

Learning about someone's aspirations is like opening a book to their personality. Learn more about mine in this article!

It is difficult to make a good list of goals. Often, I find myself salivating to become something more than what I currently am. So I write a list of all the fantastic things I'll do tomorrow, the day after, or maybe even the day after. Making an achievable list is challenging because I always picture my future self as the one who accomplishes these aspirations.

The dilemma with my ambition is that I picture my future self as the perfect version of who I want to be; ultimately, this is my first failed goal. I will never be the ideal version of myself which is why I think it is essential to make a list of goals broad, even if they are unique. I can't expect perfection for goals because if perfection is the target outcome, I will never be able to check the completion box for any of my goals.

        Owning a Rolex

I know, I know, this may seem like a standard "finance bro" goal. Rolexes show wealth and status, and who doesn't want that? However, here is the unique part of this goal, I don't want this Rolex for myself. Don't get me wrong, if I buy a Rolex, I will wear it, but I like the watch to pass it along as an heirloom.

I have always wanted to have a family heirloom. Something that is older than me and is filled with stories. However, to my knowledge, my family has no such thing. That is why I want to buy a Rolex. Everyone knows the name, and they are genuinely good-looking watching. From the research I have gathered, I would like a smaller face (36 mm), so both men and women can comfortably wear it. I wouldn't want any insanely expensive watches and buy a nice leather strap; the stainless steel is too bougie for me. To me, a nice watch is one of those luxury goods I can buy because it has aesthetics and function. Rolexes are great watches built to last, so hopefully, when I exhaust their use, I can pass them along to another family member.

        Walking the Camino

For those who do not know, the Camino del Santiago, or in English, The Way of St. James, is a pilgrimage walk with many different routes in Spain, Portugal, and France that all lead to Santiago de Compostela, a beautiful church in northern Spain. Researching the Camino and watching the movie about the hike titled "The Way" about a dozen times throughout my time in a Catholic school has me invested in making this goal a reality during my time in college. Wanting to go all in, I would choose the Camino del Norte (865 Km) route along the coast of Spain or the French Way (800 Km), which starts on the edge of France. But I will be happy with any of the eight main routes.

My calling to walk comes from my ambition to expand my frame of mind. Life can't be lived inside our 16 cm by 14 cm skull; it's too small. So by walking an 865km long trail, I am ultimately expanding my mind, which in turn grows my life by tenfolds on top of tenfolds.

       Owning a Tiny House

Owning a tiny house has always been a sensible dream of mine. I love architecture, and I genuinely believe that our surrounding inspires creativity. When I visited Paris for the first time, I immediately understood why so many of the world's greatest artists flocked to its eighteen districts. It is rich in spaces that make masterpieces achievable through its inspiring structural beauties. I love how areas make us feel, and growing up in a home where space was restricted; I learned to love the creative process of working with little to make a lot. On top of this creative desire to do more with less, I also love the idea of minimalism because it allows you to live a life where purpose is the driving force of buying. With convenience being the motivation of shopping nowadays, living where you have to worry about space allows for more cautious spending, ultimately saving on financial stress.

        Learning French

Taking a foreign language has never been a strong point in my academic career. I struggle enough in English and literature, so devoting time to learning the basics of another language seems like a far stretch. I did good in all my Spanish classes but to say I was bilingual is a joke. I used to count the years until I could stop learning a language. Still, when I had the opportunity to travel to Europe, I was enthralled with the culture of Paris and the ability to travel to neighboring countries. Seeing the freedom that learning french can bring me is a big enough incentive to want to learn French. If I knew enough to have the ability to spend a summer in Paris, it would be worth all the painstaking confusion learning any language brings to me.

     Building my Own Business

One of my mother's favorite stories is about a car ride she and I had when I was five. How she describes the story sounds like she is setting the scene of an inspiring movie where the adult has an existential crisis, For some odd reason, the child says something out of pocket, but somehow, it is precisely what the adult needs to hear to solve their problem. Anyway, she recalls that I was looking out the window at the clouds above when suddenly, I stated that I was going to own three businesses someday. I said I would own "a pizza shop, ice cream store, and a grocery store." While I have no intention of becoming the next Ben and Jerry's or Papa John's, my desire to build my own business has never fizzled.

I became enthralled with the passion of owning my own business after reading Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. The way Isaacson describes Job's time as an innovator building Apple with Steve Wozniak had me enthralled. I could not put the book down, and my mind was hooked on the nitty-gritty lifestyle that is building a successful startup.

To this day, I still dream of owning my own business, and I always find it fascinating to learn about unique side hustles that turn into full-scale businesses. If you have any free time, I highly recommend Youtubers Kara and Nate's blog because they detail how they turned their passion for traveling into three full-scale businesses. Furthermore, their quarterly expensive reports are fascinating transcripts to review and looking how they grew.

Finding my Styling and Building a Wardrobe

I have always had an interest in fashion. Putting together a well-thought-out outfit has always brought me some satisfaction; however, for the longest time, I never accepted the joy this brought me because I was afraid to be judged. I don't have many fashionable male figures, so I was under the impression that it was only for women. Ignoring this small but essential part of my identity became heavy, and I started to like my body was a thick wool sweater, itchy and uncomfortable. It wasn’t until I had to confidence to be judged and accept criticism that I fulfilled this tiny piece of my image.

I say small because I love fashion, but I'm also fragal and try not to let possession influence my happiness. So when I say finding my style and building a wardrobe, I'm referring to becoming even more confident with wearing clothes that might be more than the causal sweats my friends wear and investing in articles that I can wear for years to come. Some of the brands I love looking at for inspiration are ONLY NY, Aime Leon Dore, Uniqlo, Obey, Katin, Nike, and New Balance.

It's hard to say if all these goals will be accomplished. Matter of fact, I doubt I will check them all off, but that isn't why I have goals. If I wanted goals I could easily check off, I would make goals like wake up, breath, or watch tv. Rather, I make goals to see myself push past what I already know and learn what I can become. Life never feels complete if my biggest accomplishment is already behind me and my biggest accomplishment won't fall into my lap so I need goals. I need to know that at the end of the day whether I checked a box off or not, that I shot for something that pushed me past what I already know and made me something better.
